We were commissioned by the Hungarian Museum of Transport (via Diller Scofidio + Renfro) to design a custom type family for them. The family consists of 8 loosely connected styles the sources of which were all found in a 1906 time table for trains that we stumbled upon in the museums collection.
Instead of straightforward revivals of historical typefaces, we opted for interpretations which retain the DNA of the designs but feel unmistakably contemporary.
